SEBAGO Photo Album

Underway, July 1970

Shakedown, July 1970 The opposite end of the previous photo, steaming to make headway. The relatively calm sea still throws cold spray over the bow and makes life near the five inch mount an adventure. The view at the pointed end of the ship could be much worse than from the rounded end. The bow would literally disappear from view under tons of water, as the ship punched through huge waves strong enough to carry away even the most strongly attached equipment on deck. During heavy weather the smartest Sebago Sailors found their diversions inside, not out. Captain Goodwin and Commander Wilcox are on the bridge wing (Not in view). When the ship returned to the Municipal Pier a Change of Command ceremony took place and Sebago's only wartime CO departed for his last assignment at D7 HQ.
