USCGC SEBAGO (Hull 51) 1930's

Photos from the collection of Hugh Sloan Jr, aboard as Fireman 1936-1940.

This SEBAGO carried hull number 51 and was in commission from 1930 to 1941. The entire class was given to Britain as part of the Lend / Lease act in 1941. SEBAGO became part of the Banff Class as HMS Walney.  Walney was sunk in combat at the port of Oran, Algeria in 1943. Only 14 of the English crew survived, and an attack force of almost 200 American soldiers and marines also perished when the ship sank.
