I have received the following from CWO4 Jim Gibler...
Shipmate Bruce Angus went over the bar June 18, 2013 in Fresno, CA! Bruce had bone cancer and went into surgery last Friday to repair a damage skull bone that the cancer had caused. He made it through surgery and everything went well. He got pissed off about the food at the hospital, and as a friend described it that he got so pissed off he blew a gasket, BP dropped and the rest is history!
His friend told me that he was only up about an hour a day and was in a lot of pain over the last few weeks. Bruce was a good friend and we had visited numerous times over the last thirty years. He will be missed by all of us. Fair winds and a following sea my friend.
A celebration of his life will be held at Fresno on June 29th. I will send more information as I learn more.
The Bering Sea
Full many a sailor points with pride
To cruises o’er the ocean wide;
But they cannot compare with me,
For I have sailed the Bering Sea.
While though you’ve weathered fiercest gale
And every ocean you have sailed;
You cannot a salty sailor be
Until you’ve sailed the Bering Sea.
Underway is the Only Way,
Mr. Angus was aboard SEBAGO from 1969 to 1971, relieving Odie Nowlin and being relieved by Mr. Yates
