Arthur Alphonse Grothues, born September 2, 1921 in San Antonio, Texas, to Marianus and Maria Grothues, went home to the Lord on Monday, September 16, 2013 at the age of 92. Arthur graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1940 and then served in the U.S. Coast Guard in World War II. After the war, he married his sweetheart, Paula Michiels and devoted his life to his wife and children, the Catholic Church, and his business. The Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 20, 2013 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 13715 Riggs Rd, Helotes, TX with the funeral mass following immediately. Graveside services will then be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Arthur's name to Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Assumption Seminary, Sisters of Divine Providence, or Oblate Seminary. Special thanks to Doctor Kim Heller and staff, Doctor Robert Schnitzler, Victoria Paparelli, Vitas Hospice Care, nurse Jennifer Chapman, Avionn Healthcare, the daily mass group of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Reverend Monsignor Carlos Davalos, Father Antonio Gonzales, and Reverend Monsignor Patrick Ragsdale for the loving care Arthur received during his extended illness.
