(October 19, 2012) - Jim Gibler has just informed us that shipmate MMCS Fred Cain, USCG (Ret) crossed over the bar on September 18th. He succumbed to cancer.
Services were held at the National Cemetery at Lakes Wales. The obituary was published as follows;
CAIN, Fred Milton, 76, of Lake Wales, Fla., passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at his residence. He was born November 4, 1935 in Richmond, Va., to the late Charlie and Janie Cain; and he came here from Richmond, Va., 19 years ago.
He retired from the U.S. Navy/Coast Guard after 24 years; he was a veteran of Vietnam War. He was of the Protestant faith and a Mason.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Ann Cain; a sister, Janie; and a brother, Charlie Cain. Survivors include his brother, Robert Cain of Satsuma; two nieces, Jane Marie Dickey of Winter Haven, Fla., and Courtney Cain of Satsuma; and two nephews, Clay William and Chase Cain, both of Ocala, Fla.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Good Shepherd Hospice (105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, Fla. 33823). Condolences may be sent to the family at www.marionnelsonfuneralhome.com.
