QMC George Blocher, USCG (Ret)

QMC George Blocher crossed the bar in Texas last December (2013). He was first class on SEBAGO in 1963-64, working for Chief Plovanich.

George Duvernoy Blocher Jr.

George Duvernoy Blocher Jr., 76 years old, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2013.

George is survived by his four brothers: John Michael Blocher, Edward Joseph Blocher, James Francis Blocher, and Thomas Anthony Blocher. George was born at St Joseph’s Hospital in Houston to George Blocher and Alice Blazek Blocher.

He attended St Thomas HS and Rice University, where he won the Baker Award as top student and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He served his country in the Coast Guard for 22 years at sea, 4 of those in Viet Nam on fast boats, and his last two in Galveston. After discharge, he went on to train as a surgical tech and served at UTMB Galveston for another 22 years in surgery before retirement. 

He was an active member of the Galveston community, a member of Sacred Heart Church, and a generous donor to many charitable and historical societies. Private services will be held by the family. 

Per his wishes, George will be cremated with his ashes scattered at sea by the US Coast Guard.
