DALLAS - Alfred Richardo Zentz “Sonny” of Dallas, Oregon died at age 85 of natural causes on Tuesday, October 23rd in Dallas. He was a Dallas resident since his birth on July 7, 1927 to Albert Zentz and Remona Cummins Zentz. He served as Seaman 1st Class in the United States Coast Guard towards the tail-end of World War II from 1945 to 1946. After marrying his wife and favorite dancing partner, Anne Hayes of Yachats, Oregon on June 3, 1960, they completed their family by adding three children.

Al enjoyed his career as a construction foreman in commercial construction and proudly pointed out completed projects throughout the town and neighboring communities. He served as a member in the Elks Lodge #1950, the Carpenters Union, and was a member of Monmouth Christian Church of Monmouth, Oregon. He served as a church greeter and was often known to give pennies to the kids to place in the fountain and he wouldn’t let you pass by without a hug and warm smile. Many did not feel fully greeted without a hug from Al.

Family recalls his love for camping and fishing, traveling around Oregon, and restoring classic Ford F150s with his sons. Truly his family brought him the greatest happiness. As a husband, father, and grandfather, he excelled.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years Anne Zentz; sons Scott (Cheryl) Zentz of Dallas, Todd Zentz of Monmouth; daughter Sheila (Mark) Zentz Stephens of Lake Oswego; and five grandchildren: Ashley (Daniel) Fink of Monmouth, Amanda Zentz of Redding, CA, Austin and Addison Zentz of Dallas, and Mitchell Zentz of Dallas; and sister R. Althea Richards of McMinnville.

The memorial service is planned for November 2nd at Monmouth Christian Church (located at 959 Church St. West in Monmouth) at 11:00 AM. Private burial was held at the Dallas Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Children’s Ministry at Monmouth Christian Church, and may be given in care of Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center, who is handling the arrangements.
